What have a learned about Advertising so far ?
Advertising
Advertising is an industry which is used to call the attention of the public to something . This is usually a product , service or brand . Advertising is really the communication of a product or service promoting the viewership in order to engage interest sales and people to spread the word to others about what you want to advertise . There are many different ways of advertisement such as radio , broadcasting , television and production placement . In my level 2 media class I watched a documentary called Sell and Spin to get a bit more of idea of what advertising is . I learned that in the 1950s Television became extremely popular and over 10 million TV's were sold which was good for adverting companies as then people at home could watch the adverts and see if they wanted to buy the product . I also learned you can see adverts everywhere except when you are asleep .
What makes a good advert ?
The keys things that make an advert perfect is making sure the right message gets across in your advert to viewers . So when they are watching they think about buying what they are trying to advertise . It also needs to keep the audience engaged and interested in the advert . When making your advert you need to add humour to make the audience laugh while watching and also adding some catchy slogans into your adverts too so people will be saying these saying and remember them. for years to come . I learned from watching a documentary called Spin and sell in my Level2 Media class that repetition is key in advertising . To achieve the picture perfect advert you also need to do a lot of research to make sure you reach the requirement of the target audience .
Berries and Cream Starburst Advert : It is good advert because it has a key ingredient to what makes a a advert good is repetition because people will always remember the phrase Berries and Cream ! Comedy also features in the advert but it also spreads the message of the product which is to have a berries and cream starburst .
John Lewis Man on the Moon Advert Christmas Advert : It is a good advert because the main message of this advert is to show a little love to someone this Christmas time no matter what background they come from they are loved . The advert is quite emotional to people who are on their own at Christmas mainly targeted at elderly people as the man on the moon looking down on the earth with no family .
Target audience
So what is target audience target audience is a specific group of consumers most likely to buy your product or service . the target audience has to be depend on age , gender , location an marital status .
Demographics : Are the statistics that describe the population and their characteristics such as age , race and gender .
Psychographics : means market research or statics classify population group according to psychosocial variables such as hobbies , peoples activities and interests
Socioeconomic :Social standing or class of an individual or a group it is often combined of education , income or occupations
Branding
branding : The process of creating a distant identity for a business in the mind of your target audience and the general population
McDonalds :
is an example of a brand and is a. multinational fast food chain founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated as a restaurant by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernadino , United States .It is one of the most largest and most recognized fast food chain known for food like hamburgers , French food and named sandwiches such as Big mac , quarter pounder and egg McMuffin as well as the well loved and well know Happy Meal .
McDonalds target audience is mainly children , families , learners and businessman . the reason McDonalds breaks the target into sectors because of the enormous size as well as the projected growth rates . the demographics for McDonald's is :
age: 8-45
Gender: male and female
Life cycle stage : Married people , single people , friends , and old age
Income : middle age
I have added photos of the demographics of McDonalds .
Tv advertising formatting :
What are the different types of Tv format?
Animation : Is an entertaining way as well as creative way of advertising and promoting a certain product to keep the audience engaged
Demonetisations : Is where the product is demonstrated to potential customers in adverts this can be shown by people using the product such as hairdryer or blender .
Realist : An advert that can be seen in a real life something that could happen
Documentary : Is a real story that reflects identity of a company , product or cause .
Talking Heads : Videos that put people front and centre of the adverts .
Anti realist : An advert that isn't real so it includes cartoon characters or animation
Series : Is trying to send a lot of messages during the advert to but the product .
Examples of Tv advertising formats
Animation McDonalds Inner child advert : This animation advert it was made for McDonalds and it was called Inner Child . The target audience for this advert is teenagers as McDonalds is encourages teenagers to connect with their inner child this Christmas and spread some Christmas joy . I noticed that this advert was made in 2020 during the covid19 pandemic which was a hard time for everyone especially for children who had exam stress , were working from home , online lessons and not seeing friends or family so it was tricky to find the fun times when you felt nothing but isolated .
The music in this advert is quite slow and sad and the song and is a slow version of Forever Young by Alphaville this is to show the transition of the boy growing up and maybe not liking things he used to . However towards the end of the video he isn't to old to help his mum decorate the Christmas tree and be with his mum on Christmas.
The camera angles in the advert are quite close up to see the characters emotions and how they are feeling . You can see deep down that the boy is a little kid at heart but is trying to trying to grow up . The mum is trying to make him come out of his shell and be fun especially at Christmas time .
I think this advert is very effective because it shown not matter what age you can still have fun at Christmas time and enjoy McDonalds reindeer sticks !
Demonstration advertisement Dyson Hair Air wrap : This demonstration advert is for the Dyson hair air wrap . The target audience is for women with different hair types . I did some research and the demographics for Dyson hair air wrap are mainly for young professionals that are busy this product could also help hairdressers choose to style their clients hair in many different ways .
In this advert there is some zoomed in angles so you can see how the product works and how it changes the style of the the women's hair on the adverts . But the women holding the Dyson air wrap to show the customer how it works . The camera moves quite slow but this is because the advert wants you to see everything that the product has to offer .
The music is very slow and light because by using all the different tools to style your hair with the new Dyson wrap they want your hair to have a smooth and affectless look and finish and feeling confident to where ever you need to go .
I think the advert is very effective as demonstrates to people how the Dyson air wrap works . On the advert it shows viewers who are watching it a 3D video inside the Dyson air wrap telling you how it functions .
Talking Heads Advert Credit card advert : This credit card advert is an example of talking heads this means that people in the advert have been put very close to the camera . I think the target audience of the advert is mainly people aged under 25 as they may be started out and getting jobs as well as sorting out finances
The music for this advert is quite jolly and has different people talking over the top of it telling you about the credit card and the deals you can get as well as the different banks you can use as well . The advert includes some catchy slogans towards the end .
The camera angles are close up as it is it talking heads . With the camera angles been close up you can see the people advertising the product as well as the product its self which is the credit card and all it has to offer .
I think this advert is very effective as it shows the customer what is on offer as well as use catchy music to catch the viewers attention .
Nescafe golden blend series advert : This series advert is from the coffee brand Nescafe Gold blend called Just Popped in for A Coffee . The target audience for Nescafe is people who are coffee drinkers specially those whom are looking for a quick solution to quality coffee .
There is not much music in this advert more dialogue between a man and a women who doesn't have any coffee and a man who is her new neighbour lets her borrow some of the Nescafe gold beans. During the interaction between these two people we see the product been advertised and humour which is a key element for an advert .
The camera angles on this advert on this advert are extreme close up on the people to show their expressions . There is also a close up of the coffee beans falling so you can see what the product actually is .
I think this advert is effective because it gets the message across to all coffee drinkers out there but this advert has comedy too .
Starbucks Every table has its story documentary advert : This documentary advert is for Starbucks coffee and the advert is tilted Every Table has Its Story . I think the target audience is mainly for people aged between 20-30 and according to my research this was made near when covid19 was still a big thing so it was mainly aimed at people who had big career prospects but they had been hit hard by covid19 (pandemic ). This advert wanted to show people that Starbucks was safe place to work and aims to provide people to follow their dream career path and get back on their feet . This advert even persuaded some people to work at Starbucks !
The Camera angles are very quick in this video which suggests that even though that world was in a global pandemic and people lost their jobs and family members the world still goes on . For the girl in the advert you can see she is trying to get into art college or a job in an art magazine .
The music in this advert is very slow and sad at the start of the advert as the girl is trying to get the job and not having any luck and nothing seems to be working however the music towards the end of the advert turns more joyful to show that they is hope as she finally gets her goal .
I think this advert is effective as it shows people in real life situation and also shows rejection in the job world .
Man I feel like a Neo compares market Anti realist advert :
This anti realist advert is for Compares a market Called Man I feel Like A Neo It is advertising 25% coffee and pastries if you use compares the market . It uses animated characters to promote this the two meerkats and now Karl The Wombat . The advert is actually set in a Café Nero which is where you can get the 25% . However it doesn't seem realistic that two meerkats and a wombat called Karl would be in a Café nero then later in the advert singing Man I feel like A Women by Shana Twain but instead of Women it changes to Neo and sing all about Compares the market and 25% deals . I would say the target audience for this advert is people who are adults and want to get a good deal on insurance .
The music is used in the advert is Man I feel like a Women but Women is Changed to Neo to make it make sense to the advert . This version of the song is very funny and humorous which is key to any advert . Especially towards the end when the song stops and Karl is just singing with no music .
The camera angles are quick a bit like a musical number and makes it more funny it shows a lot of coffee beans all over too which adds drama .
I think this advert is a bit unrealistic and wouldn't happen in real life however it does what it needs to do and gets the message across to the target audience and it always makes me laugh every time its on television .
Tesco Spice Girls Christmas Realist Advert :
This realist advertisement is for Tesco it was made in 2008 and featured the popular female singing group of the 90s The Spice Girls . I know it doesn't sound like the Spice Girls shop at Tesco but realist adverts are all about things that could happen . In this advert The Spice Girls are hiding from each other as they are buying each other gifts from Tesco and they don't want to bump into each other and spoil the surprise of what they have got each other for Christmas which is a relatable thing to do during Christmas time . I think the target audience for this advert is 30-40 adults stressed shopping at Christmas time .
The music in this advert is very slow as all the girls are trying to be secretive and sneaky around the aisles and using Tesco products to hide and from each other . Emma hid in the jumpers and Geri hid in an optimum prime mask from the toy section and Victoria blended in with a poster / billboard of herself . The Tesco worker in the advert also showed Victoria an iPod if people see that Victoria Beckham aka (posh spice) buy an iPod they will want to buy one and sales will go up .
The camera angles in this advert such as pan and zoom in this advert . they use these angles because the Spice Girls are trying to hide from each other and hide the presents from each other too as quickly as possible . Towards the end of advert there is a medium long shot of all the girls going towards Tesco to get the final things for Christmas .
I think this advert is effective it not only shows the products that Tesco has to offer it has celebrity cameos and humour too . It will make people want to shop at Tesco more and get there Christmas food and presents from there too .
Product photography :
What is product photography ?
Product photography : A branch of photography that involves photographing products with the intention of displaying , promoting and highlighting certain features of a product .
Examples of product photography :
I did some research to find out some examples of what product photography actual was I found some images such as the Cadbury Chocolate it has brown background and it also has chocolate in the background which will make people want to buy the product . I have also put the image of Sabrina Carpenter Sweet tooth cherry flavour perfume . I like this photo because not only has colours red and and cherry around it . The photo has been took in flat lay shot and it telling a story about what is the perfume .
My Own Product photography shoot :
In My level 2 media I took some photos of a product for a lesson. on product advertising photography I choose to do Cadburys hot chocolate . I took a variety of different photos using Cadburys hot chocolate and even ask My media teacher James if I could make a hot cholate using a mug and adding some Cadburys hot chocolate sashes . With the camera I took a variety of different shots such as flat lay which tells people that are viewing the product a story and front angle which captures the products more from an eye level . I used a white background in the photography studio to put my objects on and used a lightbar but changed the colour to purple to make the product stand out and it helped me get a better result with my photos .
Afterwards I edited them on photoshop to make them look more different so I changed the hue and saturation around a bit more as well as the brightness . I think it makes my photos my photos look very nice and professional I also added text to one of photos to make my product have a slogan.

Primary Research : Microsoft Form

On microft form I made a form to show example of primary research . The question I asked on the form was What is the perfect length for an advert ? 9% of people said a 1 minute 18% of people said 10 seconds but joint top was 36% people said an advert should be either 5 or 45 seconds .

on microft form I made a form to show examples of primary research . The question I asked on this form was Where do you see adverts or hear adverts the most ? 58% of people said they see adverts on the social media which makes sense as technology is a lot more advance these days and social media is everywhere you look and social media is on everyone phones . However according to this form 42% of people said that they do see adverts on Tv .

On microft form I made a form to show examples of primary research this question i asked was what is your favorite social media site . YouTube only had 1 vote at 8% same with Facebook . Instagram has 4 votes but a total average of 33% . However it is Tiktok that comes on top with 6 voters and 50% perctage of people voting for it as there favorite social media platform . I think the reason why YouTube has gone down because tik tok has got more things to do on it like make videos , share videos and post videos to others and its more modern .

I did another microsoft form and ask students on level 2 media how they got to college to help me with primary research , the most common answer was by bus .
Secondary Research

I did some secondary research and found out that colleges advertise in a lot of different ways . I choose to do add grimsby institute website , franklin college website and Lincoln college website on my portfolio .
Grimsby Institute uses videos of the college and things related to the course in the background of the courses you are looking at on the website to make the website more interesting and engaging to people who are going to look at the website mainly people who are at the age of looking at going to collage .
I think that Grimsby Institutes posters that are advertising open events at the college and university centre are brightly coloured and on the university poster especially it shows part of the Grimsby institute building which is important to people as it shows them what it looks like . As the posters are brightly colour it makes students in that age group look at them or even parents who think Grimsby Institute looks like a good choice for them to go and go to these open events and look around . Grimsby instuite have other ways of advertising the college and what it has to offer through its social media . I follow the Grimsby institute social media page which has a variety of videos and images of students at the college on the different courses to show what events are going on and what sort of things are students are doing on the courses . I also follow the grimsby instiute creative media page which is on instagragram . This account showcases all different things that go on in the media and photography courses .There is some content been posted from level 2 media students in our group from our recent assignment which was recreation . There is also a podcast that gets posted on this account called the Student Seat which level 3 media and photography students host where they disuss different topics and even get special guests on !
Franklin college is another college in Grimsby but is more of a sixth form . I think the main website does not have a lot of colour only the basic pink and dark blue . However they have got a photo of three students which go to franklin college this suggest that the target audience for their website are mainly for young people to look around and explore what courses they have to offer . It has some details on the home page such as who to contact , search for courses and there is an open event on the 1st February which would appeal to younger people possibly wanted to go there in the future .
I found out that Franklin College have a Becoming a Franklin student this is telling the students who go on website what they have to do to get into franklin college and the process .
Like Grimsby Instiute Franklin College has social media to advertise the college and make it well know . I looked on Franklin college Instagram and it has the same sort of thing as Grimsby institute but obviously in a different setting . I saw that they posted videos and images of events and different things that the students do on the courses but the general idea is to show people what franklin college is .
Lincoln college main website is very colourful and has students as the photos that you can scroll onto to and find out more about a certain part of the college this suggest to me that they have designed the website to be more modern and colourful so that young people will look at it and want to go to Lincoln college in the future .
My options on my research
when doing my research about how different college advertise . I noticed that Grimsby instiute has separate accounts for different courses like it has a main account as well as account to advertise creative media .
Out of all the colleges I think Franklin has the least of the variety as it is a six form and with Franklin they dont have a university or anything . However with Grimsby instiute they have adult courses and a university centre for adults and young people who want to learn further .Lincoln collage has a university too .
Student seat from the grimsby instuite youtube channel
My main ideas : Tv Ad video
In my part of the creative brief assignment I am going produce an advert for television to show what creative courses are available at Grimsby institute I will film the media block , art block and music block . This advert will be 1 to 2 minutes long and the main purpose of the advert is to entertain but to also be informative and the target age for the advert is people who are age 14 -18 and who are enrol and go to college and are interested in creative courses .
Media : At the start of the advert Me and Emily are going to hold card signs like in the film love actually and kind of recreation of the film featuring James ( media teacher ) but the signs have things to do with media on . After that James lets me and Emily into the media classroom and we ask him a few questions like what is level 2 media about ? what grades do you need to get ? Then get some media students on the computer's , video of what computer we use , posters of the room we used last time , get Emily ,Rhys ask them what they like about media
Art : do a sort of montage / ask ruby to take some photos so I can edit them together on premier pro to show to people what art is on display at Grimsby intiute
Music : I will then go up to the music block and show audience around. In this part of my advert I would have Vali and possibly conner playing the piano and guitar to audience what instruments you can play while studying music .

What will I do if something does not go to plan?
If something does not according to plan I am not going to lie I get stressed out . Evaluation :
Introduction:
What was the purpose of this project ?
The purpose of this project was to create content and adverts for learners for a company called GI ads . GI ads wanted some promo adverts creating that showcased the vibrant environment of Grimsby institute and asked the level 2 students to help with this .
What skills did I want to develop ?
The skills I wanted to develop when doing this assignment was time management . I still feel like this a skill a still need to work on as I was running out of time to complete my adverts despite having done a lot of planning and research to back up my ideas . Another skill I would like to develop is editing as I struggle to use premier pro as sometimes it goes slow when i am using it and things do not seem to look how I would like them to .
Investigation \Research :
What did I learn about advertising ?
When doing the advertising creative brief on advertising in my Level 2 media class I learned about lots of different things to do with advertising such as how were adverts created and what are adverts ?What makes a good advert ? looking into a detail what makes an advert stand out from the crowd and looking at examples , from branding and different target audiences as well as demographics . I even created some of my own product photography which not only made understand this better but gave me hands on experience to what been a product photographer was like . When I learned about product photography I used Cadburys hot chocolate and put chocolate items around it to make people buy the product .
How did What I learn help me with my project ?
The things I learned about advertising in class helped me with my project is that it is important to plan an advert so you have a structured advert . I did a lot of research to find a lot of different adverts so its important to get evidence .
What could I have done differently in terms of investigation ?
For the investigation part of assignment I think I have got a lot of research and evidence such as screenshots of my edits from premier pro as well as research about adverts as well as images to show what adverts they come from and some videos . However I think i could have done with some more feedback from peers .
Communication :
How did I work with others ?
I feel like i worked with others well on this assignment however sometimes there were moments when people in my group were editing and doing things so we couldn't always film things straight way and sometimes it was rush and we didn't have time . However when i was working with others in my group I suggested to them ideas about where they could go to film or take photos .
How did I communicate during the project ?
I communicated in this project by talking to people face to face and also and with my group at the beginning of the project by showing the class a presentation of our ideas about what we were going to do . Ruby did photography , Emily did social media and I did Tv adverts .
Practical Skills
What Practical skills did you use ?
The practical skills I used during this assignment was using the camera equipment to film my adverts as well as editing my adverts using the editing software premier pro .
What went well during the practical ?
I think the things that went well during the practical was getting all the footage I need for my adverts and my ideas working out like I planed them to be .
What could have been improved ?
My practice video could improve a bit better as I wasn't sure how to use the premier pro to make the audio go over the footage and it was a bit mixed up and the footage was a bit wobbly and the audio was a bit quiet in some areas .
Development :
How did I use my feedback from my peers in this project ?
I used my peers feedback to help me develop my assignment and even convinced me to changed my ideas and gave me some pointers of what to include for the real shoot . One of the key pieces of feedback I took away from Peers Emily and Ruby is to make the writing bigger on the cards for love actually recreation scene in my media advert and I used a black pen and you could see it much better .
How did your project develop ?
My early idea was to make an media advert and a hairdressing advert to show the creativity at Grimsby institute which I communicated to the class in a presentation . I decided not to do hairdressing because the days we filmed was the days when my friend poppy was not in and I was not sure what days she would be in . I still decided to do media advert as it is the course I was familiar with and the course I do . For my practice video I incorporated a bit of movie recreation something that you learn in Level 2 media and did a love actually door scene but wrote on the cards things to do with media and even ask James some question some questions about media . When it came to editing I was unsure how to put all together so it was a bit jumbled .
I had an idea at home and thought I would do three separate adverts still showing Creative courses but just make adverts still related to creativity at Grimsby institute . So I made plans who would be in what adverts for Music , art and music . I still used similar idea. for media , decided to make a montage for art and an advert for music .
Approach :
How did you work individually during this project ?
I work individually on this project by thinking of my own ideas for what I was going to do for my advert as well coming up my own segment for the presentation for the creative brief that our group had to present to the class .
How did I work with others ?
I work with others well and suggested where to film or take photographs . I showed communication by talking with people face to face and emailing people in my group and other peoples feedback when everybody did presentation about the creative brief and our group showed communication by expressing our ideas to the class about what we had planned for our adverts and content creations.
What planning did you do ?
For this assignment I did a lot of planning to be organized I made a storyboard to show what going to happen in each advert as well as made a script especially for my media advert as it had talking in so people know what to say and do . I also made plans and notes about each adverts for myself so I was clear on what I was doing . At the start I made a shoot plan too .
How was your time management ?
I would say my time management is still not very good as I just managed to get my media advert done despite doing planning .
Summary :
Do you think you have met all the objective of the brief ?
I have done a lot of research for this assignment and shown my evidence however I am not sure if the music advert is edited to the best of my abilities as towards the end I was rushing this may have to do with my time management skills but all these adverts show media , music , art around Grimsby institute.
Is there anything you would do differently next time if you were to do this again ?
If I were to do this project again I would only do one or two adverts not three adverts because editing three adverts was not as easy as I thought it would be and my time management skills may have had something to do with this .
