It is set at thanksgiving at Lily ( Kelly Rutherford ) and Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle) house and they are hosted their first thanksgiving as a married couple . There is a lot of drama in this scene such as main character Serena Van de woodson (Blake lively ) is having an affair with married man tripp and Tripp's wife is invited to thanksgiving dinner where Serena and Tripp are . Blair waldolf ( Leighton Meester thinks her mum is pregnant and hiding other secrets from her about her inheritance , Eric van de woodson ( Connor Pablo ) lies to Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Mommsen) . Lily is hiding secrets from Rufus about where she was in the summer and who she was with .
In this the lighting is mainly natural and dark which suggest to the audience something bad is going to happen and the darker the light goes aggression is rising towards the characters .
The choice of song is important in this scene which is Jason Derulo and Imogen heap What u say . This song is perfect for this scene because as this songs begins to play each of the characters secretes is revealed or some drama is starting to flare up in typical gossip girl fashion .
The costumes in this scene are plane and black and basic make up worn by the other characters except CeCe (lily's Mum) played by Caroline Lagerfeld is wearing her hair nice and posh jewelry and wearing the colour red which could mean danger as she could cause an argument between Rufus and Lily and ruining thanksgiving . The only other character who is wearing another bright colour is Tripp as he is wearing red jumper as well as a yellow shirt and a blue tie . The red shirt suggests he is a dangerous character as we find out in the episode he is having an affair with Serena and he is also aggressive character towards Nate after by exposing him and Serena kissing to his wife . The colour yellow suggest that Tripp is obsessed with Serena but also scared about getting caught having an affair with her and also obsessed with his career will be in jeopardy if he gets caught if he is with Serena .
In the scene there is not a lot of colour in the room only the orange flowers on the table . The colour orange represents friendly , welcoming and happiness which is what thanksgiving is meant to be about however it is not very well represented in this scene as there is a lot tension between most of the characters .
